It doesn’t take a detective to find that I love watching TV and though I have a lot of shows that I’m already devoted to I’m also always excited to give something new a try. Between Netflix originals and network dramas or comedies, there’s a show out there to suit everyone’s taste it’s hard to love only a few because there’s just so many that deserve our attention! Now if you’re a Game of Thrones fan like me then you know that they’re taking the year off to finish up their final season and it will no doubt be their best yet so I’m definitely going to need some solid TV to fill a dragon sized hole that’s left on my TV list. There’s no way Game of Thrones can be replaced and to be honest I’ll probably be complaining to Deanna all year long about how much I miss the show BUT I’m also looking at the year ahead and there’s a lot of other great shows to look forward to. With a mix of new and old shows making a return again this year, I knew I had to share this list with all of you so take a look!
Westworld— Revolving around an all immersive western theme park where guests can act out different stories and interact with the park’s very realistic robots this was easily the most original show I’ve seen in a very long time. Deanna raved about it to me early last year and I ended up binge watching all of season one within a week! This show hasn’t been on since the end of 2016 so a second season of this is highly anticipated and I cannot wait to see what the park has in store for us this year!
The Resident— Who doesn’t appreciate a good medical drama? While I’ve been devoted to Grey’s for a long time the fact that Matt Czuchry, aka Logan Huntzburger, from my old fave Gilmore Girls is on this show was pretty much enough for me to give it a try. It’s a bit edgier than Grey’s swiftly highlighting the cut throat environment of the medical field in it’s first two episodes out the gate, I’m intrigued to see how the rest of the season plays out!
New Girl— Following the life of the quirky Jessica Day and her new roommates I have enjoyed this comedy from the moment it premiered back in 2011 and now that all six seasons have been uploaded to Netflix I found myself falling in love with the show all over again! I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up in it’s final season premiering in April.
Splitting Up Together— A comedy set around a married couple who have chosen to split up but also keep living together for the sake of their kids, I saw a trailer of this new show a few months ago and have been waiting for a premiere date ever since! Ellen Degeneres is an executive producer and I’ve loved Jenna Fischer since The Office sooo this one is a no brainer for me!
Mayans MC— A spinoff of Sons of Anarchy with the same creator Kurt Sutter, as a fan of Sons I can’t wait to see a show based off of the Mayans club that made frequent appearances in the original show. I don’t know too much about the new series except that it’s set to pick up a few years after the events in the series finale of Sons but there’s so much potential in this spin-off and now that it’s officially been picked up by F/X I’m very excited to see how it turns out!
The Handmaid’s Tale— I joined in on all the hype after season one and cannot wait to see what happens next. For those who didn’t watch the first season this is not a happy show, it is all together eerie, riveting and disturbing for it’s portrayal of what happens when power falls into the wrong hands. Based off of Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, which I haven’t read myself, I do know the second season will be all new material as the first season covered the events of the book and with Atwood at hand alongside the show’s creators I know season two will not disappoint!
Wayward Sisters— A potential spinoff of one of my all time favourite shows, Supernatural, this show hasn’t officially gotten a green light for a series but after last week’s backdoor pilot during Supernatural this is definitely a spinoff that can work for this series! Now in it’s 13th season I’ve read for years that the execs at CW will keep the show running as long as it wants and are also eager to give it a proper spinoff and choosing it to revolve around the already beloved Jodi Mills and other kick-ass females that have been on the show is a proper counterpart to the almost all male cast of Supernatural.
Phew, that’s a lot of shows! I’m hopeful for all the ones I’ve listed above but of course, we never know how it will perform after a few episodes and I could very well be disappointed with any of the ones I’ve mentioned above. Are you looking forward to any shows in particular this year? Did I list one of your favourites as well? Have any other suggestions for me to check out? Let me know in the comments below! I’d love to hear back!
