Resolutions have never really been my thing. Whenever people asked if I would be setting any at the start of a new year I would usually just shrug and say I didn’t know. Over the past few years though I’ve always made a conscious decision to focus on certain things in my life when January begins and sometimes I follow through and sometimes I don’t and I’m sure we all get like that. I never really wanted to look at a new year as a means to make some changes because if you truly do want to improve or fix certain aspects in your life you don’t need to wait for the start of another year to do it, but you also can’t really fight the hopeful feeling you get once January 1st hits and there’s a whole new year to look ahead to.

Last year I ran out of reasons to say no to the little travel bug inside that had always been itching to get out and I booked a trip to Europe and even with all the stress of planning all I could say to myself was finally. Going on that trip was huge for me and while I’ll always want to feed that travel bug inside, this year I want to refocus on myself. I know I can get stuck in my everyday routine and I’ll admit that I tend to think that it’s a permanent, set routine, but it isn’t so I’m trying to shake things up and move out of my comfort zone to find ways to make myself better in all areas. I’m not talking a huge lifestyle change right at the start of the year but focusing on making small, yet impactful changes throughout the year. From finding an exercise routine I can actually stick to, cooking at home more often and just being more organized, I’m ready to make myself a priority again. It’ll be slow and steady and I’m sure there will be days when I want to second guess everything I’ve been doing but change is both scary and good and I’ve just got to remember that as I go along, plus I’ll have this post to look back on whenever I need to.

Putting yourself first should never make you feel guilty or selfish and I think that’s something we all need to remember. Whatever your resolution, wish, or hope is for 2018, do it knowing it’s positive change or addition to your lifestyle. No one’s perfect and I’m sure we all have that one thing that comes to mind when the word “resolution” comes up, but instead of putting so much pressure on yourself to make one huge move, take a different approach and set small goals that will help get you where you want to be. I’ve got a good feeling about 2018, don’t know what it is exactly but I can just feel it and I’m wishing for the same thing for all of you no matter what you’re thinking of tackling this year.

Amanda 🙂
